The victim, Mukesh of Ayapakkam who owns three trailer trucks, approached Maduravoyal police station around 1 am Sunday. In his complaint, Mukesh claimed that he went to his office on Villivakkam-ICF road on Saturday night to check a consignment. When he was waiting in his car, a three-member gang picked up a conversation with him and boarded the car. They suddenly snatched his phone, made him sit in the backseat and drove away the car.

“One of them identified himself as Dil Pandi demanded Rs 30 lakh,” said Mukesh in his complaint. When Mukesh told them that he did not have so much cash, the trio allegedly attacked him with liquor bottles.

When the car was proceeding towards Koyambedu from Maduravoyal, he jumped out of the car but the trio fled in the car, he said in the complaint lodged at Maduravoyal station.

However, the personnel there grew suspicious about his contradictory statements and grilled Mukesh. After investigation, police said the trio was known to him and they had consumed liquor together on Saturday. After a quarrel broke out, Mukesh got down from the car and filed the complaint.

“After Mukesh got down, the trio drove the car to his house and handed over the keys and his mobile phones,” said the investigation officer. All four have been detained for further investigation.
