Gambler jumps off second floor to escape cops, dies
A 40-year-old man, who tried to escape from a police raid party by jumping from the second floor of a building in Kodungaiyur, died on Tuesday night at hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

Vyasarpadi law-and-order inspector Srinivasan received a tip-off that people were indulging in gambling at a house on Balakrishnan Street at Krishnamoorthy Nagar in Kodungaiyur. Following this, a team headed by him rushed to the spot around 10.30 pm.
When the police entered the house on the second floor of an apartment building, a group of men tried to flee but the team managed to secure four of them. They later came to know that there was one more person, who jumped from the balcony and was lying in a pool of blood.
He was rushed to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital, but he succumbed to injuries. Kumar of Rajasthan had been staying in city and working as a labourer.
The other accused secured were identified as D Peter (45) of MKB Nagar, S Chezhiyan (33) of Tondiarpet, R Raji (32) of Vyasarpadi and G Chandrasekar (41) of Triplicane. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
