Property dispute: Man runs tractor over father
The deceased was identified as Annamalai (75), a farmer from Murugambakkam village near Anaicut in Maduranthagam.
Chennai
A 40-year-old man murdered his father by running a tractor over him following a property dispute, near Maduranthagam on Tuesday.
Annamalai has three daughters and two sons – Ezhumalai (40) and another son who is mentally challenged. According to the police, Annamalai had divided his 15-acre farmland into five, splitting it between his children, a few months ago. He had mentioned that in case his mentally challenged son passed away, his property would go to Ezhumalai. But Ezhumalai was not satisfied with the deal and kept on quarrelling with Annamalai to get the property back from the three daughters, arguing that they were all married. However, Annamalai refused to change his decision.Â
While Annamalai was on the field around 2.30 pm on Tuesday, Ezhumalai went there and picked up a quarrel, asking him to give the land as he has been demanding. When Annamalai refused to agree, Ezhumalai got in a tractor and threatened to kill his father. Initially, Annamalai thought it was an empty threat. But Ezhumalai drove the tractor towards him very fast. Annamalai tried to run but was hit by the tractor and died on the spot. Â
The villagers who noticed this informed the Anaicut police station. A team of personnel who arrived at the spot sent the body to Maduranthagam GH for post-mortem examination. The police have registered a case and are searching for Ezhumalai who is absconding.Â
