According to Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash, the land with an extent of 0.25 acres, belongs to the civic body and was occupied by two encroachers. “Recently, the encroachers had changed the patta on their names. After noticing this, we sent a letter to the district Collector stating that the patta has been changed to the private parties illegally,” he said.

Of the total around 1.60 acres of land that belongs to the civic body, the encroachers had encroached 0.25 acres. One of the encroachers is a construction firm. Prakash added that based on the letter, revenue divisional officer conducted the inquiry and restored the patta to the name of Greater Chennai Corporation. In continuation with the patta change, the zonal officer of Anna Nagar was directed to take possession of the land immediately. On Thursday, civic body officials visited the site and kept a notice board stating that the land belongs to the Greater Chennai Corporation and took possession of the land partly.

“As the encroachers have sought one-week time to vacate the place, entire possession of the land will be taken after that,” an official said. Meanwhile, the civic body had removed encroachments on pedestrian pavements in Shanthi Colony inAnna Nagar.
