OTA remains as a Centre of Excellence for training of Women Cadets and Officers in the Indian Army. The training for women officers which started on November 24, includes weapon training, information technology, communication, drill, tactical training, and leadership training.

“The officers have already undergone military training in their respective services in Afghanistan. Since OTA is one of the premier military academies of the world, it is imparting much-needed exposure to modern training methods and facilities to other officers. In the beginning, there was a lack of communication and vocabulary issue but within a few days they were able to learn everything. They like tough training with strictness which they don’t find in their academy in Afghanistan,” said Colonel Anuradha, interpreter officerof India.

“They showed keen interest in outdoor activities, sports, obstacle training, and weapon training. In indoor activities infantry tactics and information technology were taught. They are also fond of speaking Hindi and watch Bollywood movies apart from training,” she added.

Trainers are from different sections like logistics, human resources, infantry, and radio communication. “During our training in Afghanistan, the training was given differently for men and women. We were not trained with weapons. But here, everyone is given an opportunity to handle weapons. We are dealing with AK 47,” said Soniya Noorin, a trainee officer.

The officers also find various differences between both the training academies. In drill, they kick in heels which is hard compared to the training given in Afghanistan. Also, the way of salute differs in India and Afghanistan.
