Three women pose as cops, try to kidnap railway employee
Three women in police uniform, who tried to kidnap a woman railway staffer, were arrested by the Guindy police. The kidnappers allegedly mistook the woman’s friendship with the lover of one of the women for an affair, said the police, adding that two men part of the gang were let off as they, too, were conned by the imposters.

The incident happened in the wee hours of Thursday near Guindy railway station after the victim, Subashini of Velachery, was dropped by her husband on a two-wheeler. Subashini, who works as a clerk at Mambalam Railway station, was walking towards the foot overbridge to board a train, when a man and woman, clad in khaki, approached and asked her to get in the car as they had to inquire her ‘in connection with a criminal case’.
Growing suspicious, Subashini tried to call her husband, but they snatched the phone away from her hand. She then ran towards the staircase raising an alarm, but the duo allegedly chased her. When passers-by noticed and tried to nab the duo, the woman in uniform escaped. But the man was secured and handed over to the Guindy police.
During interrogation, the man, identified as Jeevanantham, reportedly told police that he was a cab driver hired by the women through another person named Balaguru. He claimed he accompanied the women ‘cops’ to secure Subashini. Jevanantham said that one of the women was in uniform, while the other had a handcuff.
Based on the information he provided, Balaguru was picked up and through him, all three women were secured. They were identified as Vadhani, Muthulakshmi and Tamilselivi. Interrogation revealed that Vadhini, who runs a readymade showroom, was in relationship with one Kishore, also a clerk at Mambalam railway station and colleague of the kidnap victim Subashini.
“Vadhini mistook their friendship for an affair and decided to kidnap and threaten to snap the relationship with him. As she runs a readymade showroom, it was easy for her to arrange the police uniform. Her friends Muthulakshmi of Avadi and Tamilselvi of Villivakkam pitched in to help her. They approached Balaguru claiming to be police personnel and hired the cab. It was Mahalakshmi who went with Jeevantham in uniform,” said police.
All three women were remanded in judicial custody, while the two men were released as they were not aware that the women were imposters.
