7 Class 11 students start project to distribute old toys among poor kids
Once, during a random conversation with his uncle, Class 11 student Yash Rathore realised that almost every household in the city has a pile of unused toys tucked away in a corner.

This gave 16-year-old the idea to collect such toys and distribute it among poor children who would treasure it. Accordingly, he and six of his classmates from Sishya School began their project titled ‘Toy Joy’ earlierthis year.
After completing their Class 10 board exams, the students spent their summer vacation collecting and distributing toys. Having partnered with the delivery app Dunzo for this project, the team has so far donated 1,000 toys at underprivileged homes and orphanages through NGOs such as Bhumi and the GreatLakes Foundation.
“Most households have toys that are left behind when the children in the family grow up or get bored of it. On the other hand, there are a lot of poorchildren who don’t have access to toys. So, we decided to bridge the gap,” said Yash.
“When people donate toys, they make the children happy and receive immense amount of gratitude from them. We want kids to learn how to contribute so that they grow up to be adults who care about the society,” said 17-year-old Vedanth Vivek, Yash’s friend and project partner.
The students are set to host a toy collection drive at Savera Hotel on December 15. At the same time, a part of the eight-member team will visit villages near Mahabalipuram to distribute toys to the children there.
“We think that good will gets reciprocated. People our age are really competitive and self-centered, and we hope that this will help them see the world from a different angle,” said Yash.
