High drama as spl team nabs Bihar duo on the run

A special team led by inspector Vijayaraghavan secured the suspects from their hometown, a Naxal-prone zone, after a lot of drama.

The accused were identified as Raushan Manjhi (21) and a 17-year-old boy from Kewali village in Nalanda district of Bihar. Investigation revealed that they murdered their employer, A Prabakaran of Vyasarpadi, for refusing to give additional money they sought apart from salary. From them, police recovered Prabakaran’s mobile phone and Rs 5,000 that they had stolen.

After Prabakaran was found dead on November 23 night, Ambattur police combed the CCTV footage from the locality and found two workers running away. After finding out that the duo boarded a train to Bihar from MGR Chennai Central railway station, the special team flew to Patna and reached their hometown.

“As the duo did not go to their hometown, the team waited on the road passing through the village. But after villagers informed them about the police, the duo managed to reach the village on a bike. The team entered the village again, secured them and reached a local police station. However, about 300 villagers, including women, surrounded the police station and did not allow the special team to leave the premises,” said Assistant Commissioner K Kannan.

Later, inspector Vijayaraghavan informed Deputy Commissioner Easwaran, and Joint Commissioner Vijayakumari spoke to Nalanda SP, following which local police force was sent to the village to bring the accused out of the village. The special team spent four days to bring the accused to the city and remanded them in judicial custody.

Police said further investigation was on to find out whether they have any criminal records in Bihar.
