The deceased identified as Alka Raju, was a resident of an apartment complex on Trunk Road, Porur. The incident happened around 3 pm when the woman had gone to the kitchen to cook. Alka, who searched for an apron found it to have flown away from the clothesline through the open window and was on the ledge below the window. Police said, since the window had a sliding door, she managed to climb on the window. She sat on the window ledge and tried to retrieve her apron and lost balance and fell. It looked like the window door slid when she was holding it and she lost the balance.

Police said her husband Raju, 70, was a retired employee of a private company and the couple was residing at the complex for more than five years. Police said that the couple removed the grill attached to the window to fix a mosquito net. The workers were supposed to fix it on Wednesday but failed to turn up and had informed the couple that they would fix it on Thursday. The workers had removed the iron grill on Monday. On Wednesday afternoon, the residents heard a loud thud outside and later found Alka on the ground in a pool of blood. She died on the spot with multiple head injuries. A resident of the apartment complex informed her husband about the incident. Her husband who was at the house was not aware of her death as he did not hear any noise.
