Heavy rain expected in most parts of state
After heavy rain lashed various parts of Tamil Nadu, the shortfall in Northeast Monsoon has reduced by at least 10 percent on Thursday. Though the deficit was more than 30 per cent on Monday, it was only about 8 per cent on Thursday evening. Tambaram received the highest amount of rain recording 15 cm, while other parts of the city received at least 5 cm of rainfall.

Following the heavy downpour, schools and colleges in Kancheepuram were declared a holiday on Thursday, while many areas in city and suburbs were inundated. Traffic snarls were also witnessed on many arterial roads across the city due to the rain.
Within the city, several areas including Virugambakkam, Adyar, Valasaravakkam, Guindy, Kodambakkam, Meenambakkam and Teynampet received heavy downpour on Thursday morning. Several districts, including Kancheepuram, Ariyalur, Cuddalore, Karaikal, Ramanathapuram, Nagapattinam and Tiruchy received more than 5 cm of rain on Thursday.
The latest bulletin by the regional meteorological center stated that scattered heavy to isolated rainfall is likely to occur in various parts of the State for the next four days.
In Chennai, the sky will be generally overcast. Light to moderate rain is likely to occur in some areas with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be around 31 degree Celsius and 25 degree Celsius respectively. On Thursday, the minimum temperature dropped by 1.5 degree Celsius in both the weather stations with Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recording 2.2 cm and 4.5 cm of rainfall respectively. The maximum temperature in Nungambakkam was 31 degree Celsius, while Meenambakkam recorded 31.1 degree Celsius. The minimum temperatures at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam were 24.7 degree Celsius and 23.7 degree Celsiusrespectively.
Weather blogger Pradeep John also stated that heavy rain is possible from November 30 to December 2, across the Tamil Nadu coast including Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chennai andChengalpattu belt.
