CMRL set to open underground parking facility at Central station
In a major relief for its commuters, Chennai Metro rail is all set to throw open its underground parking facility at the Central Metro station in a couple of weeks.

The parking facility at the Central Metro could accommodate about 100 cars at a time, said an official of the CMRL.
Despite the Central Metro providing multimodal transit integration with the Central railway station, MMC Suburban station, Park Town station EMU and MRTS and bus stop, it did not have a parking facility for the commuters. “The work on the underground parking facilities outside MMC is over. It will be soon thrown open for the public use after completing some minor works,” the official said.
On Monday, the CMRL also opened the entry and exit point near the Central railway station to provide easy access for the commuters to reach the Central Metro and also other intermodal transit systems. Commuters exiting the Central railway station can reach Park station on other side of the EVR Periyar Salai without crossing the arterial road.
Two more subways connecting Central Railway station and Evening Bazaar road with Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital is under way. Traffic police has started preventing the jaywalkers from crossing the EVR Periyar Salai-Pallavan Road junction. “We are directing the pedestrians to make use of the pedestrian subway and Metro subway to reach their destination,” the police said.
