SBI gifts 14 battery-operated tricycles for trash collection
The State Bank of India on Tuesday handed over as many as 14 battery-operated tricycles to the Chennai Corporation for door-to-door collection of garbage in the city. This was done as a part of their corporation social responsibility (CSR).

According to a Chennai Corporation official, the tricycles were bought for Rs14 lakh and have been deployed in Royapuram for waste collection.
“The tricycles can also be operated manually by using the pedals. Apart from these, the civic body, under Swachh Bharat Mission has already procured 411 battery-operated tricycles,” the official said.
The Corporation has also allocated Rs 35 crore to buy 1,590 battery-operated tricycles which would be used in four zones in which the civic body had decided to handle the conservancy work.
Corporation Commissioner G Prakash said that the organic compost produced from garbage collected in the city are being distributed to residents. “We have given compost to farmers in Thiruvallur district in an to promote organic farming in 30,000 acres of agricultural land,” he said. As of now, the civic body uses 4,027 tricycles to carry out door-to-door garbage collection in the city.
