The accused was identified as Kamalakannan (46) of Arani in Tiruvannamalai district, who works as a security guard in T Nagar. The incident happened when he was returning to T Nagar after seeing off his son at Egmore railway station.

The police, after questioning him, said that he was asked to get down from three buses when he gave a Rs 500 note to buy a ticket.

“Later, he hired an autorickshaw and reached Teynampet where he noticed the MTC bus (route No 23C) from which he was asked to get down at Egmore. He got down from the auto and hurled stones at the bus, breaking the front glass panel,” the police said.

The incident resulted in a traffic jam on the busy Anna Salai as panicked passengers got down from the bus. Passers-by secured Kamalakannan and handed him over to the Teynampet police. He has been detained for further investigation.
