    Tertiary treatment plant’s capacity to be increased to 60 MLD

    The municipal administration and water supply department have accorded revised administrative sanction to increase the capacity of the first tertiary treated reverse osmosis plant (TTRO) at Kodungaiyur from 45 million litres a day to 60 MLD.

    The government order has been issued a month after the inauguration of the 45 MLD treatment plant at Kodungaiyur by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami onOctober 2.


    Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani had made an announcement in the assembly that the capacity of the 45 MLD treatment plant would be enhanced by adding another 15 MLD at the expense of Rs 120 crore. The 45 MLD plant costRs 235 crore.


    The order said that the managing director, Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has requested to accord revised administrative sanction for a total revised cost of the project for Rs 637.81 crore including construction cost for an amount of Rs 392.61 crore and operation and maintenance cost for an amount of Rs 245.20 crore for 15 years to design, build and operate, a 60 MLD capacity TTRO plant at Kodungaiyur including laying of conveying pipeline to supply product water to the industries in Manali-Ennore corridor and Manali-Minjur corridor. “While designing the 45MLD capacity TTRO plant, design provision in respect to civil works and transmission main have been made for future expansion to a maximum capacity of 60 MLD and accordingly units for TTRO plant and transmission main were designed and execute the increased capacity,” theorder said.
