While officials who are part of the special team were not available for their comment, sources in the institute said that the professors, whose names were found in the suicide notes retrieved from Fathima’s mobile phone, appeared before the officials at a guesthouse inside the campus. The inquiry lasted for over an hour. It is said that police inquired the professors individually.
Police officials are expected to meet the professors again and also inquire Fathima’s classmates and hostel roommates when they return to the institution after the study holidays. Earlier, hostel staff members and Fathima’s father Abdul Lathief were interrogated on Saturday. But officials remain tight-lipped about the inquiry proceedings.
Fathima, a student of integrated MA course in humanities hailing from Kollam district in Kerala, was found hanging in her room in Sarayu hostel on November 9. The incident made headlines after her parents met Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking fair probe into her death as she had mentioned a few professors’ name for pushing her to take the extreme step. On Friday, Abdul Lathief met Chief Minster Edappadi K Palaniswami and DGP JK Tripathy and sought proper investigation raising suspicion over his daughter’s death.
