Rajini packs political punch, says miracles have happened, will happen tomorrow also

Superstar Rajinikanth had confirmed his political entry on the eve of 2018 New year saying his target was 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls. But nearly two years on, he was yet to launch his own party, though he said he would not contest the ensuing Local body elections in the State.

But the 69-year-old actor never misses any opportunity to make politically loaded statements.

After taunting the BJP with the 'catch me if you can' remark on the attempts being made to 'saffronise' him on the Thiruvalluvar statue desecration row saying neither he or the Saint Poet could not be netted, Rajini once again packed a political punch at an event got up to pay musical tribute to his long time good friend and actor-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiam Founder Kamal Haasan, to mark his completion of 60 years in cinema.

All eyes were on Rajinikanth at Kamal's 'Ungal Naan' (I am in you) event held here last night, which was graced by the fraternities of the Tamil film industry.

Though it was a filmi event, many who spoke on the occasion touched upon politics.

Rajini sprang a surprise with politically loaded remarks stating that 'Miracles are happening all around us, it's happening today and will happen tomorrow', sending the packed audience into a delirious mode.

He said ''for instance, two years ago Edappadi K Palaniswami would not have imagined becoming Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister. When he did, many said his government will fall soon. Everybody spoke about it...almost 99 per cent of people spoke about it.''

''It's been two years now, he (Mr Palaniswami) continues to be in power overcoming all hurdles,'' he added.

''Miracles have happened yesterday, they continue to happen today and will happen tomorrow as well'', he said, apparently hinting that there might be a change of guard at the helm of affairs in the State after the 2021 Assembly polls, in which Rajini had said that would contest all the 234 seats.

Rajini also created a political flutter recently by stating that a quality political leadership vacuum exists in the state, which was however, debunked both by the ruling AIADMK and the Opposition DMK.

While Mr Palaniswami said there was no such vacuum as perceived by the actor, the DMK said, Rajini was talking without knowing the prevailing political climate in the state and the so called vacuum was already filled by DMK President M K Stalin.

The actor, who shares a long friendship with Kamal, said they will be the same forever even though their ideologies are different.

Comedian Vadivelu, who shared space with Kamal in 'Thevar Magan', said the latter's political venture was 'kaalathin kattayam' (compulsion of time).

Popular actor-producer-director S A Chandrasekhar said if both Rajini and Kamal come together in politics, Tamil Nadu and the people of the state would benefit.

Meanwhile, Rajini's elder brother Satyanarayana Rao, told reporters in Dharmapuri that the actor will start his political party in 2020.

Speaking after offering worship at a temple, he exuded confidence that Rajini would deliver a good and selfless government and would strive for the welfare of the people.
