With the help of the Corporation workers, a team of personnel led by inspector Anandarajan checked the poles on either side of the Vaidyanathan flyover and Meenambal Nagar flyover and removed the manja threads that were stuck on them.

Workers climbed the poles using the ladder that was erected on a mini truck and removed the threads. The police said that the exercise would continue in the coming days.

On November 3, three-year-old Abhinayu of Kondithope died after a manja thread dangling from a pole on Meenambal Nagar flyover at Korukkupet slit his throat. He was on his way home from his relative’s house with his father Gopal on a two-wheeler when the incident took place. However, the police are yet to trace the suspects in the case.

A CCTV footage of the incident showed how the manja thread took away his life even before his parents understood about what happened to him. After the incident, the police have been warning people flying kites using manja threads of severe action. Recently, the police held a meeting with residents of RK Nagar to discourage their children fromflying kites.
