2 weeks after dip, rise in dengue cases again
After a small reduction in the number of dengue cases for the last two weeks, the cases are seeing a spike again in the city. Though more than 45 dengue positive cases are currently being treated at the Institute of Child Health, hospital authorities denied any critical cases or deaths due to dengue in the past one month.

Though the State Health Department officials claimed a reduction of about 25 per cent in the number of fever and dengue cases in the State, the city hospitals are again seeing an increase in the number of cases, especially among children.
“We had only about 20 cases of dengue just a fortnight ago, but the cases increased and we currently have 45 cases. However, the cases of late referral have reduced and children are being treated symptomatically,” said Director of Institute of Child Health Dr S Ezhilarasi.
Around 30 dengue patients are receiving treatment at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital while Kilpauk Medical College and Stanley Medical College hospitals have about 15 dengue patients each.
Of more than 4,500 dengue cases recorded across the State, about 500 cases have been recorded in Chennai so far, with Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Dharmapuri and Coimbatore also recording large number of cases.
The State Health Department officials said that the cases are in control and all measures are being taken to prevent any complications. “The cases are reducing this month and there might be a slight surge in the dengue cases among children. However, there is no situation to panic as the hospitals are completely equipped with medications and blood components to treat the patients,” said Public Health Director Dr KKolandaisamy.
