Constable relieved of phone at knifepoint
Three boys robbed a police constable at knifepoint, making away with his mobile phone near Poonamallee on Monday night. The trio, all aged 17, were soon nabbed.

Police said Silambarasan (31), a Grade I constable at the Triplicane police station who was in plainclothes, stopped his bike on Senneerkuppam Road to attend a call. The boys approached him and asked to hand over the phone but he refused. One boy threatened him with a knife, while the other two assaulted him and snatched the phone.
Based on Silambarasan’s alert, a patrol vehicle went in search of the boys, whom they found hiding near a lorry in the same locality. They tried to escape on a bike, but the police nabbed them and recovered the mobile phone. One of them is studying in Class 10, another a polytechnic student and the third a school drop-out.
