HC notice to govt on raising reservoir storage
The Madras High Court has ordered notice to the government on a plea seeking to increase the water storage in the lakes in Chennai and neighbouring districts by at least 10 feet and thereby increase their respective capacity for better water storage within a reasonable timeframe.

A division bench comprising Justice M Sathyanarayanan and Justice N Seshasayee, before whom the plea came up for hearing on Wednesday, suo motu impleaded the Corporation Commissioner and directed him and district Collectors of Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur to submit details of action taken to deepen the tanks by December 04.
The petitioner, B Jagannath, an advocate practicing at Madras High Court, had submitted that the increase of Water Storage in these 12 Reservoirs -- Rettai Eri (Both Porur and Kolathur), Puzhal, Poondi, Ambathur, Madhavaram, Korattur, Chitlapakkam, Sholavaram, Velachery, Mogappair Mangal, Pallavaram Periya Eri Reservoirs -- would enable efficient augmentation of water storage capacity in Chennai and it would go in a long way in addressing the water supply needs of Chennai citizens in the future for at least the next three decades.
