The accused, Vijay, a delivery executive, surrendered in the court in presence of two of his advocates around 10 am.
According to the sources, Vijay in his statement to magistrate said that the deceased, Mukesh, was his close friend. He found the gun in a garbage dump in Vengadamangalam two years ago. He dug the ground and hid it near his house. He then took the gun during Deepavali ten days ago and showed it to his friend Mukesh. Since then, both of them used to pull the gun trigger, but it would not fire.
When Vijay kept the gun on Mukesh’s forehead and pulled the trigger on Tuesday, it fired. Vijay said that he fled from the house out of fear. He added that he went Kelambakkam and then to Kovalam and disposed the gun in the sea.
The court ordered 15 days of judicial custody of the youth. The police said that Vijay’s statement does not seem to be true and he will be taken into custody soon. Only after inquiring him, we can find out what happened, they added. Sources said that Vijay already has a robbery case pending against him in Guduvanchery.
Mukesh (19), a polytechnic student, was shot dead by his friend Vijay on Tuesday morning at the latter’s house. He died on the way to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
