A 19-year-old third year Electrical and Electronics engineering student of a Kolapakkam polytechnic college was shot dead by his friend in a house on Tuesday in Vengadamangalam. The deceased was identified as Mukesh.

Police said Mukesh, who was on holiday, had gone to meet his friend Vijay, who worked as a food delivery boy, on Tuesday. They said that the duo was inside the house talking and Vijay’s younger brother Udaya and sister-in-law Bhavani (wife of Ajithkumar, elder brother of Udaya and Vijay) were standing outside the house.
“They suddenly heard shots and Udaya rushed inside the house to see Vijay running fleeing the spot with a pistol in hand. “Mukesh was lying in a pool of blood on the sofa,” a police officer said. Mukesh was rushed in an ambulance to a private hospital in Rathinamangalam and later referred to Rajiv Gandhi GH, but he was declared brought dead on arrival.
On information, a police team from Thazhambur visited the spot and conducted an inquiry. They found an envelope on a chair where Mukesh was seated and a young girl’s photo was in it.
Police suspect that Vijay and Mukesh might have fought over the girl and that might have triggered the shooting. They added that Vijay had become a drug addict in the last few months and was also keeping the company of a few local history-sheeters. “It is possible that Vijay managed to get a gun from a gangster,” a police officer said. Thalambur police are searching for the suspect. Three special teams have been formed.
