    Auto driver, friend held for robbing passenger

    The Maduravoyal police have arrested an auto driver and his friend for robbing an elderly passenger. The accused were identified as G Sampath (45), an autorickshaw driver from Alapakkam, and S Mahesh (62) of Tiruninravur.

    The incident happened on Friday morning when the victim, Kandhavel of Madhanandapuram near Porur, boarded a share auto to go to Maduravoyal. When the vehicle was near a service road, another passenger in the auto gagged him and snatched one sovereign ring from him. A few metres away, they dropped him and fled the spot. Based on Kandhavel’s complaint, the Maduravoyal police registered a case and secured the suspects on Saturday. After investigation, they were remanded in judicial custody.

    Meanwhile, the Ambattur police arrested another autorickshaw driver, who fled with valuables from a passenger. The victim, Sultan Nawab of Bihar, hired the auto to transport household items to the MGR Chennai Central. However, when Sultan Nawab went into the house, the auto fled the spot with the valuables, the police said. The accused, T Ashok (22) of Vyasarpadi, was remanded in judicial custody.
