Police seized fake donation receipt books from them and have launched a hunt for two others, who are on the run. The arrested persons were identified as Vijayakumar (26) and Thirumalai (25) from Villupuram. On Sunday, Vijayakumar, Thirumalai and two others began collecting money from the residents of Siva Vishnu Bhimeshwar Nagar in Mudichur, claiming that they were going to organise a function at a temple in the neighbourhood.
The police said that the gang forced the residents to pay at least Rs 500, and also allegedly misbehaved with the women who were alone in the house. On suspicion, the residents alerted members of their association. After noticing the association members arriving to question them, the group tried to escape from the spot. However, the public managed to catch one of them, identified as Vijayakumar.
After investigation, the Peerkankaranai police found they were robbers and seized fake receipt books from them. Based on the CCTV footage, the police arrested Thirumalai near Mudichur bus stop on Sunday evening and launched a hunt for the other two suspects.
