Corporation home-delivers 6,680 kg organic manure in two months

According to Greater Chennai Corporation data, 545 orders were received till Saturday. Central Chennai Region of the civic body received 285 orders and delivered 3,269 kg, which is the highest among the three regions.

South Chennai Region had received 194 orders for 2,559 kg. North Chennai received only 66 orders for 852 kg. On Saturday alone, the civic body received 3 orders (30 kg). Among the zones, Adyar received 78 orders amounting to 1,011 kg.

In September, the civic body announced that it would sell organic manure produced using bio-degradable garbage at Rs 20 per kg. Presently, the civic body has a huge stock of 190 tonnes of organic manure in hand. 

Residents, who require organic manure, could send a WhatsApp message to 9445194802. Residents should provide their address to which the manure would be delivered. Payment would be collected on delivery.

“National Agro Foundation and Chennai Testing Laboratory Private Limited have issued quality assurance certificates to the manure produced by the Chennai Corporation,” civic body said.

Of the total 4,930 tonnes of garbage collected, the civic body segregates and compost 400 tonnes of organic waste. The civic body has as many as 139 micro composting centres, 537 bamboo pits apart from other composting facilities.
