Chennai
Residents of VC Garden Second Street in Mandaveli, especially women, gathered in front of Metro Water depot office and demanded immediate action to prevent mixing of sewage with drinking water.
In a petition to Metro Water, V Dhatchayini, a resident pointed out that the body has been supplying contaminated drinking water to the area for more than 15 days. “Because of this, many people have developed health problems including fever. I submitted a complaint to the area engineer of Abiramapuram, but the leakage is yet to be fixed,” she said in her petition.
The residents also pointed out that they are forced to buy drinking water from private companies owing to this problem. “Until the problem rectified, the Metro Water should supply drinking water to the locality using tankers,” the residents urged.
Several attempts to reach Metro Water area engineer of Teynampet area and assistant engineer of VC Garden area, but in vain.
