The police identified the deceased as Samantham Moorthy, from Vembuliamman Koil street in Thiruneermalai, who was a security guard at aprivate firm.
On Wednesday, Moorthy did not go for work since the temporary mud road, which was constructed over the Adyar river, got washed away in the rain.
The police said on Wednesday afternoon, Moorthy had gone to check out the condition of the road and did not return. His family thought that he might have gone to work and would return only on Thursday evening.
On Thursday evening, however, locals noticed a body of a man on the river bed and informed the Shankar Nagar police station. Officers who arrived at the spot retrieved the body and identified it as Moorthy’s. They registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem examination at Chromepetgovernment hospital.
Sources said the mud road was laid in the river early this year since the bridge was demolished in Marchfor reconstruction.
