A two-month-old girl child Rajamatha was beaten to death by her drunk father at KK Nagar in the wee hours of Thursday.
Chennai
The accused, M Ellappan (27) was a conservancy worker, said the MGR Nagar police who arrested and remanded him in judicial custody.
The child, Rajamatha, was born to the couple, Ellappan and Durga (25) of Dr Ambedkar Colony in KK Nagar. Police said that Durga has two children, aged five and four, from her previous marriage. She separated from her husband Arumugam two years ago and started living with Ellappan.
After Rajamatha was born, Ellappan allegedly often approached Durga for sex, but the latter allegedly refused saying that she had to take care of the child. Around 4 am on Thursday, a quarrel erupted between the couple over the same reason. Ellappan, who was under the influence of alcohol, became angry and allegedly hit the child’s head with force.
A few minutes later, Rajamatha started bleeding from her nose and became unconscious. Durga rushed the child to a government hospital, where the doctors declared Rajamatha dead on arrival.
On information, the MGR Nagar police registered a case and arrested Ellappan under charges of murder. He was remanded in judicial custody on Thursday.
Durga was drunk when the incident took place. Ellappan used to hit the child regularly to force Durga to have sex with him, said the police.
