Also, tipplers who will enjoy an extended holiday will have more choice, as Tasmac is planning to showcase around 100 brands, besides selling varieties of tin beer.

A senior Tasmac official told DT Next that the corporation has set a total revenue target between Rs 400 crore and Rs 470 crore through liquor sales in these three days.

According to him, the average daily revenue for the Tasmac, the monopoly liquor retailer in the State, is between Rs 90 crore and Rs 100 crore. “On weekdays the liquor sales will be about Rs 90 crore, which touches Rs 100 crore on weekends,” he added.

This is considerably higher that the revenue that the corporation earned on the day of Deepavali in 2018. That year, as the festival fell on a Tuesday, the revenue was only Rs 130 crore, the official said. “This year, we aim to collect at least Rs 150 crore revenue on Saturday and Rs 180 crore on Sunday,” he said. As Monday has also been declared public holiday, the sales on that day is expected to be around Rs 140 crore, he added.

Stating that the Tasmac is planning to increase its number of staff, the official said two staff will be deployed in each shop situated in busy areas to deal with the expected rush.

On the new arrivals of liquor brands for this festival, he said, “As brandy is consumed largely in Tamil Nadu, we are planning to showcase minimum 50 brands of it. In addition, with only a few shops in the city sell tin beers at present, we are planning to sell it in more outlets especially from Saturday,” he added.
