College girl, schoolboy killed in accidents

According to the police, Uma Maheswari, who was BA final-year student in a college in Vysarpadi, had travelled to Ponneri with her friend Parthipan and was returning on his bike to the city on Thursday evening when the accident happened.

Their bike collided with a private college bus and both suffered serious injuries. While the injured were taken to a nearby hospital, Uma succumbed to her injuries later, the police said. The Cholavaram police are probing the case.

In the second incident, Sanjay Kumar, a Class 9 student, was returning home on his bicycle on October 16 when he was hit by an autorickshaw on Kaliyamman Koil Street. He suffered head injuries and was admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.
