Jetlee, a Shih Tzu breed dog was boarded at Pawsome dog care in Tambaram Sanatorium, owned by Kalapagam Rao as its owners were traveling out of the country.

“She had given us a call on the day we left our dog telling that Jetlee’s both eyes popped out from the socket and he was covered in blood and in tremendous pain. She claimed that it happened a few hours after we left. And she informed it to us casually without any concern. She asked us to send someone to pick him up and take him to the doctor,” said Shirish Deol, who owns the dog.

The owners immediately contacted Bhanu Rekha, an activist, from whom they adopted the dog to take him to a veterinary hospital at 1 am on that day. “Bhanu immediately rushed the dog to the hospital. They performed surgery to put his eyes back into the socket and stitched it with both eyes closed,” Shirish said.

“Kalpagam didn’t tell us what had happened to the dog, making it difficult for the doctor to provide treatment. After a lot of persuasion, she informed us that she had left the dog in the terrace for more than two hours without any supervision. When she went up to check, she found him in this condition,” said Bhanu Rekha. The owners filed a complaint with the Chromepet police following which an investigation has been initiated.

“They are paid for the service they provide. This is totally an act of negligence and abuse,” said Shirish. Now, the dog is fighting for his life as he is not able to sleep and is in a lot of pain.
