Man molests 13-year-old boy, held under Pocso Act

The accused, K Nithyaraj (42) of Kundrathur, was a murder convict and was released from the prison recently, the police said.

The incident happened when the 13-year-old boy was returning home from school on Monday evening. Nithyaraj, who started a conversation with the juvenile, offered to drop him home in a share auto and took him to a secluded place in Senneerkuppam. When he tried to molest the victim, the latter shouted for help and was rescued by passers-by. They beat up Nithyaraj and handed him over to the police. The Poonamallee all-women police registered a case and remanded Nithyaraj in judicial custody on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Vadapalai all-women police arrested a 32-year-old for abusing his wife demanding dowry. The accused, J Rajesh of Valasaravakkam, who runs a photocopy shop in the locality, married Manimekalai in 2016 and the couple has a child. However, Rajesh started harassing Manimekalai lately and assaulted her on Monday. Based on her complaint, the police booked Rajesh and remanded him in judicial custody.
