Nurse commits suicide by injecting herbicide

The deceased, V Nandhini (24), a native of Athipattu village in Tiruvallur district, was staying at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in Tiruvottiyur with her sister Sujatha (26) and worked at a private hospital.

On Monday, soon after Sujatha left for work, Nandhini injected herself the herbicide which she might have brought from her village as her father Venkatesan is a farmer. Sujatha, who returned home, found her sister lying unconscious with a syringe near her.

She rushed her to Stanley Medical College Hospital where she died without responding to treatment in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Investigation revealed that Nandhini had already attempted suicide five years ago. A suicide note recovered from the housestated that no one was responsible for her death. She had requested to bury her body in her hometown.

The Tiruvottiyur police are trying to ascertain the reason behind her decision. Further inquiry is on.
