The two leaders met at Mahabalipuram, a coastal town in Kancheepuram district, on October 11 and 12. The area was also decorated with lights and while the monuments had a new look that even the locals could not believe their eyes. But now, its all back to square one with garbage engulfing the place.

“For the last few weeks we could not spot a single piece of garbage and all the roads were clean. Now things have become worse again as none of the workers has turned up to clear the garbage,” said K Ramesh, a resident of Mahabalipuram.

The Mahabalipuram beach, which was cleaned by hundreds of staff and even by the Prime Minister, has been filled with uncleared garbage along the shore.

“The stage and backdrop arrangements which were arranged for the leaders’ visit was not dismantled properly and the waste was dumped near the beach,” localsalleged.
