    Modi-Xi meet: Traffic diversions to make way for world leaders

    When Chinese President Xi Jinping reaches Chennai on October 11 and 12, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, vehicle movement across the city would be diverted to different routes to ensure that they have a hassle-free journey from the city to Mahabalipuram and back.

    On Friday, all vehicles entering the city from Perungalathur will be diverted via Maduravoyal by-pass road from 12.30 pm to 2 pm. Similarly, all vehicles coming from Chennai south will be re-routed to Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam radial road to reach Maduravoyal by-pass to reach their destination. On the same day, vehicles coming from Tamabaram and Meenambakkam will be barred from entering Guindy and will be rerouted to Jawaharlal Nehru Salai from Kathipara junction between 3.30 pm and 4.30 pm.


    On OMR, all vehicles entering the city on Friday will be diverted via Perumbakkam from 2 pm to 9 pm. On Saturday, the same restriction will be implemented from 7.30 am to 2 pm.


    On ECR, vehicle movement will be barred from Akkarai to Muttukadu on Saturday from 7 am to 1.30 pm.


    Also, schools, IT firms, and commercial establishments on GST Road, parts of Anna Salai, Sardar Vallabhai Patel Salai, OMR and ECR have been instructed to make necessary arrangements to be unaffected due to the traffic diversions. Heavy vehicles, tanker lorries and load vehicles will not be allowed to ply on the said roads from 6 am to 11 pm on both the days.
