Door-to-door verification on OMR ahead of summit
Ahead of the summit attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Mahabalipuram next week, the city police have begun enumerating residents staying on the roads leading to Old Mahabalipuram Road to ensure that no criminals were holed up in the stretch leading to the meeting venue, said a senior police officer on Friday.

The police teams are checking lodges and hotels across the city, while door-to-door verification of residents and tenants are being carried out in OMR and roads that leads to it.
OMR, also known as IT Corridor and Rajiv Gandhi Salai, is a location where large number of people from other parts of the State and country and working in dozens of tech firms, and stay in rented premises or paying guest accommodations.
Police are collecting all details, including the of name and phone number of the head of the families if it is single families staying in a house or flat, and mobile number of all persons, particularly bachelors, staying on rent. OMR is a neighbourhood that is close to Mahabalipuram, a popular tourist place, where the two leaders will be spending time to carry out bi-lateral discussions. Sources said Commissioner AK Viswanathan has drawn personnel from across the city to carry out the security exercise fast and in a precise manner. Police personnel in the rank of sub-inspectors are leading the verification work in every street that is linked to OMR. The roads linking East Coast Road with OMR are also under the police scanner, sources said.
