Gang which cut cake with machete held in city
More than 10 months after the video of a gang cutting a cake using a machete on the birthday of one of the gang members in Pulianthope went viral, police arrested the three of them while they were allegedly threatening a Corporation worker. The police also noted that the three were absconding in a robbery case.

Police believe that the youth’s birthday cake cutting act in November last year was inspired by the birthday party of gangster Binu Pappachen, who cut the cake with a machete in February 2018. Police had gate-crashed the party and arrested many wanted criminals.
Last November, on Iyyappan’s birthday, his friends decided to surprise him with a cake. To cut the cake, they gave him a machete instead of a knife. One of his friends took a video of Iyyappan standing in their midst and cutting the cake with a machete and uploaded it on social media. It went viral soon afterwards, drawing the attention of city police.
On Friday, while Iyyappan, Sharathkumar and Samundeswaran were allegedly threatening a Corporation worker at knifepoint near Pulianthope, a police team arrested them. Police said the trio, all from Pulianthope, was involved in a robbery case.
