He runs a private firm at Ambattur Estate. The incident happened near Red Hills when Karthik was negotiating a curve on his bike and an autorickshaw came from the opposite direction. Both the vehicles brushed against each other and this led to the autorickshaw driver, Venkat (27), starting an argument with Karthik and it further degenerated into an exchange of blows. Passers-by pacified and sent them away. While Karthik went home, Venkat followed him and attacked him using machete, the police said. Venkat barged into Karthik’s house and attacked him using a sickle. Karthik, who was alone at home, suffered injuries and collapsed. The neighbours, who heard his cries, rushed to his rescue and took him to Stanley Medical College and hospital. His condition is said to be serious.
