Vapers assn condemns ban on e-cigarettes
Criticising the ban on e-cigarettes that the Centre had brought in last month, those who had shifted from smoking cigarettes to vaping are questioning the rationale behind continuing the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products.
Chennai
According to healthcare professionals, e-cigarette users – commonly called vapers – face problems such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and eye irritation. The high dose of nicotine in e-cigarettes may even cause thoracic disorders, high blood pressure, seizures, coma and even death. However, the The Association of Vapers India argue that e-cigarettes are comparatively safer than cigarettes.
Demanding the withdrawal of the ordinance that bans the consumption, production, manufacturing, import, export, transport, sale, distribution, storage and advertisement of e-cigarettes, they argued that the ban will push vapers back to smoking and deprive them of the safer option.
Samrat Chowdhery, AVI director and harm reduction advocate, said, “So many people are on the streets raising their voice against the unconstitutional and draconian vape ban. It is astonishing that the government ignored the stay orders of the Delhi and Bombay High Courts and imposed ban even on research. If the government turns deaf ears to our demands, we will be forced to challenge it legally. He said that they would continue to voice their protest against the ban and organise protests across the country.
