6,145 spl buses for pooja, 10,940 for Deepavali from city

An announcement in this regard was made after a review meeting chaired by Transport Minister MR Vijayabhaskar at the secretariat on the arrangements to be made for the operation of the special buses during Ayudha Pooja and Deepavali.

Taking into consideration the long weekend with Ayudha Pooja and Dussehra falling on October 7 and 8, the State transport undertakings would be operating 6,145 special buses from October 4 to 6. Apart from the daily service of 2,225 buses from the city, 1,695 special buses would be operated to various places. The corporation would also operate 717 buses from Coimbatore, 280 buses from Tirupur and 245 buses from Bengaluru.

The special buses towards Andhra Pradesh would be operated from Madhavaram new bus terminus, while the buses to Puducherry, Cuddalore and Chidambaram via ECR would be operated from KK Nagar terminus. The special buses heading towards southern districts will depart from Koyambedu and those transporting passengers to Thanjavur and Kumbakonam via Vikravandi, Panruti will depart from the temporary bus stand setup at Tambaram. Poonamallee bus stand will be the origin for buses bound for Hosur, Arcot, Vellore and Kancheepuram.

In a similar arrangement, for the Deepavali festival, 10,940 special buses will be operated from five places in the Chennai City from October 24 to 26. To facilitate the return journeys after the celebration of Deepavali, 4,627 buses will be operated to the Chennai Metro City from October 27 to 30.
