Private vehicles take over service lane in Tambaram

People from the locality, who have to head to the market, post office, police station and municipality office in Tambaram, take the service lane to avoid the busy GST Road. This saves them extra distance and thus time.

K Jagadeesh from Perungalathur, who used to take this road regularly, said he was forced to avoid it now because it takes about 30 minutes to cross the congested lane filled with dozens of parked cars. Many had complained to the traffic police attached to Tambaram station, but no action has been forthcoming.

When contacted, a traffic police official from Tambaram station said the parking lot inside a private hospital on the service lane was closed for some renovation. Due to this, patients visiting the hospital are parking their vehicles onthe lane.

“We have asked the hospital management to complete the works at the earliest,” said the official, adding that after the work on the parking lot is completed, punitive action would be taken on those parking their vehicles on the lane.
