According to the police, local residents found several tonnes of banned gutkha products near a pond and alerted them.
Following this, the Arambakkam police went to the spot and seized gutkha products packed in 10 gunny bags. The police estimated that the cost of the seized contraband would be more than Rs 10 lakh.
A case has been registered and the police are investigating who abandoned the bags.
Meanwhile, the police also arrested five persons for ganja peddling in Minjur on Saturday.
The special team formed by Ponneri DSP based on the order of Tiruvallur SP nabbed the suspects, who were selling ganja in and around schools in Annupampattu village in Minjur.
