The girl, studying Class 6, stepped out of her house around 8.30 am in uniform minutes before leaving for school and did not return. The girl’s father, Baskaran, an autorickshaw driver, searched for his daughter in the locality and lodged a complaint at the KK Nagar police station.

The police immediately swung into action and combed CCTV footage in the area and found out that the girl went through the lane opposite the Forum mall. After further investigation, they located the girl to Tondiarpet and a police team rescued her.

Investigation revealed that the girl was upset as her parents reprimanded her for not studying. “She took a Rs 10 note from her father’s pocket and boarded an MTC bus to north Chennai,” said the police. She was handed over to Baskaran after interrogation.
