Apart from verification of employees’ background, district Superintendent of Police P Aravindhan also stressed the need to check the background details of security guards and the agencies they belong to.
During an interaction at a hotel near Gummidipoondi with the representatives and managers of various companies from areas like Sipcot, Kavarapettai, Ponneri, Minjur and Athipattu, SP Aravindhan told them to set up surveillance cameras that can record the registration number of vehicles coming to the companies. Cameras should be there also in road junctions near the firms, he added. Besides he asked the companies to ensure safe working atmosphere for women workers.
The SP also noted that there was a need to have better relationship between the police and industrial bodies, particularly in a district like Tiruvallur that has a sizeable presence of manufacturing units. It is better to sort out the issues at the beginning itself rather than trying to handle it after it goes out of control, he noted.
For maintaining a smooth relationship with the police and companies, it was decided to form a WhatsApp group with stakeholders as members. In every area, police would form such groups with company officials as members.
Additional SP Silambarasan, Assistant SP Kalpana Dutt, deputy Superintendents Pavan Kumar Reddy and Chandradasan were also present at the meeting.
