Rs 10 L worth steroids seized at city airport
Customs officials have seized 12 types of performance enhancing Anabolic-Androgenic steroids worth Rs 10 lakh from a passenger who arrived from Phnom Penh in Cambodia at the Anna International Airport here on Sunday night.

A release from the office of the Commissioner of Customs said, based on information, one Rajan Misra (46) of Kolkata, who had arrived from Phnom Penh (Cambodia) via Kuala Lumpur by Air Asia Flight was intercepted by the Customs officers on suspicion of carrying performance enhancing sports drugs.
As he appeared nervous, he was questioned. Since he gave evasive replies, the officials examined his eight check-in baggages, which appeared rather unusual for a single passenger.
On examination he was found to be carrying injections and tablets of Anabolic-Androgen steroids which were concealed among his personal effects. The officials seized D-Bolin (Metandienone) 900 pieces Stanoline (Stanazolol) 396 pieces, Finabolone A (Trenbolone acetate) 340 pieces, Finabolone E (T Enanthate) 90 pieces, Testolone E (Testosterone Enanthate) 500 pieces, Equibolone (Boldenone Undecylenate) 400 pieces, Parboline E100 (Trenbolone Enanthate Inj) 100 pieces, Parabolin Hex 100(Trenbolone Hexahydro Benzylcarbonate Inj) 100 pieces, Masterlone (Drostalonone Propionate) 300 pieces, Primobolone (Metheno Enanthate) 200 pieces, Testolone C (Testosterone Cypionate) 30 pieces, T Entboline (Testosterone Enantate Inj) 100 pieces. The value of the seized drugs were Rs 10 lakhs.
The drugs were recovered and seized under Customs Act, 1962 read with Drugs and Cosmetic Act, 2008 (as amended). On inquiry the passenger informed that he had purchased this medication in Cambodia and was to supply to local gyms in Kolkata to earn good profit. He said he mostly travelled to Lucknow and came to Chennai for the first time.
The Anabolic-Androgenic steroids which are mostly banned in sports were used non-medically for muscle building for physique and performance enhancing purposes by bodybuilders and their use was being encouraged by gym owners who earn huge profits by their sale. Further investigation is in progress.
