The head constable Sundaramoorthy of Mambalam police station was admitted to the hospital to stitch the finger that was hanging and the accused, identified as Bal Bahadur (42) of Assam, has been remanded in judicial custody on the charges of preventing a government official from performing his duties.

Around 3 am, Mambalam police received information from the control room that an unidentified man damaged a few cars, broke a house window and attacked a security guard when confronted on South Boag Road.

Sundaramoorthy, who was on night patrol, rushed to the spot and secured the man, who was later identified as Bal Bahadur. However, he bit Sundaramoorthy’s middle finger of his right hand and it was almost chopped off. But, Sundaramoorthy did not relent and caught him and handed him over to a sub-inspector. He then got admitted to a hospital. As Bal Bahadur seemed mentally unstable, he was also taken to the government hospital. Interrogation revealed that he reached Chennai just the previous day in search of job and got into a fight with the security guard as he wanted to sleep on the terrace of a building.
