The CCTV footage of the incident went viral on Monday and the accused seen in the video was identified as Premkumar of Kasimedu, a history-sheeter.
The incident happened on Sunday evening at the restaurant near the fishing harbour. In the 12-minute long CCTV video that was circulated on social media, he was seen arguing with the cashier Ali (48) and then attacking him and another staffer, identified as Parthiban (28). The CCTV footage shows Premkumar throwing chairs at Parthiban and whacking Ali.
The police said Premkumar allegedly demanded mamool from Ali and as the latter refused to give him, the history-sheeter got infuriated. He verbally abused him and damaged the properties. Scared, customers ran away from the spot.
