Two days after a 30-year-old man was hacked to death inside a hotel in Tirutanni in Tiruvallur, police on Sunday arrested five persons in connection with the brutal murder. Police said that the victim, Mahesh, was witness of another murder carried out by the same gang in March this year.

The arrested persons were identified as Vimal Raj, Ajith Kumar, Raj Kumar and Gopi Raj from Perumalpet, and driver Sathish. Police said that the same persons were earlier arrested for allegedly murdering one Vignesh alias Vicky in March this year. Mahesh was key witness in that murder case. All the suspects of Vicky murder case were out on bail since June.
“In a related development, one of the accused in that case was recently attacked by Vicky’s associates. Police had arrested three persons in connection with that. When they were produced at a court in Tirutanni, Mahesh had come to the court on Friday to meet them. At that time, Mahesh was chased by the suspects and hacked him to death inside the restaurant, where he tried to take shelter,” police noted.
The video of Mahesh’s gruesome murder had gone viral in social media. Tiruvallur SP P Aravindan has formed special team which collected the CCTV footage from the area where murder took place. After identifying the suspects, they were secured by the police on Sunday. The suspects tried to escape from the police and fell down, which broke their hands and legs, claimed the police.
Sathish, driver of a car in which the suspects escaped after murdering Mahesh, was also secured later. Police said that both the sides had ongoing tussle since 2013 over organising a volleyball match.
