Medians on 82 roads to get a makeover

According to a Chennai Corporation official, all the roads are located in the core city zones and the 82 roads include Wallajah Road, Kamarajar Road, Pantheon Road, Arcot Road, Perambur High Road, Pallavan Salai, Nelson Manickam Road and Kilpauk Garden Road.

“Damaged portions of the medians are being renovated and new handrails are being installed. Apart from the civil works, we are planting new decorative plants on the medians,” the official said.

When asked the reason behind taking medians in the core city zones only for renovation, the official clarified that the bus route roads in extended zones are under the maintenance of State Highways department and the civic body maintains only the interior roads in those zones.

“All the selected 82 roads already have medians with plants. While other roads, too, have medians, but they do not have plants in it. We could not create new decorative medians on such roads due to traffic issue or narrowness of the roads. As far as the 82 roads are concerned, works on some roads are complete and remaining will be completed before monsoon,” he added.
