Woman clobbered to death, lover arrested

The deceased, Mohana from Tiruvottiyur, separated from her husband, also a Railway employee, and three children a few years ago, and developed a relationship with Veerasamy (32) from Cuddalore, who worked in a Railway canteen.

The couple had checked into a lodge on VV Koil Street in Periamet on Saturday afternoon. When the room remained locked till late night, the staff at the lodge grew suspicious and opened the room with a spare key. Inside, they found Mohana’s body hanging from the ceiling.

On information, Periamet police retrieved the body from the lodge and sent it to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital for post-mortem examination. Noticing that there were injuries on her face and also that the man who accompanied her was missing, police suspected that she could have been murdered. The police team then launched a hunt for Veerasamy, who was secured on Saturday night.

After investigation, police said that Veerasamy suspected Mohana of infidelity, which led to a quarrel between them inside the lodge room. “Veerasamy, who was under the influence of alcohol, punched Mohana in the face several times, and she collapsed and died on the spot. Later, to make it look like a suicide, Veerasamy hanged her and fled the room,” said police. He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody on Sunday.

Police said Mohana was a native of Tiruttani and stayed in the Railway quarters in Tiruvottiyur. She had been employed in Korukkupet railway station to flag the trains. Her husband lives in Ponneri with their three children.
